The Repository Service that we propose is a software module, developed as part of a digital library service system called OpenDLib, that stores and disseminate digital documents. The service is accessible through an http-based protocol, and is generic with respect to the type and contents of information space to be handled. It is thus application-independent and can be implemented as a basic component in many kinds of digital libraries. This paper describes the features that render it broadly applicable.
